ReconAfrica is a Canadian oil and gas company with rights to drill for oil in Namibia and Botswana. It is proven that the exploration of petroleum has routinely been accompanied by ecological harm, and has often been the pretext for conflicts. The exploration area in Namibia and Botswana borders three national parks, the Okavango River, and the Okavango Panhandle, which supplies water to the unique Okavango Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
